INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE

INTRODUCTION:

The English people had a very old history. For over centuries they are publishing their creations and their writings. Usually English History starts in 8th century and lasts in present. From 8th century to present, what were their lifestyle and what traditions they hold and what the class system was in British society. All these factors including progress and growth over these centuries will be discussed.

English people are usually very adventurous and hold various characteristics which leap their life. The writers of their concerned ages tried to portray the society of their age by showing its beauties and defects. In this way they are termed as "Realists". They showed the evils present in the society and the goodness of people. They were succeeded in carving out the masterpieces in the presence of their competent contemporaries and surpassed them in their capabilities.

Out of these writers, some got a fame of high order and some a little. Hence, some established themselves and the great masters. They occupied for them the first rank of writers. They were so intelligent and hold so mastery skills that they are termed as "father of their concerned genres".

Before going into detail, I would like to have a look on actually

• What the literature is?
• What are implements of literature?
• How it reflects the society?
• What are the types of literature?

All these questions are important as without clarification of these questions, we are unable to understand the value and the worth of literature. If we do not care of these questions and only study the literature without comprehending these dogmas then our outcome will be useless. We will be distracted and this distraction will lead us to totally opposite directions. So, it is very necessary to understand these queries and questions.

Now, we will discuss the three questions,

First of all, the literature is the reflection, the mirror, the lens of the life that shows the representation of the society through the literary works and texts. Literature tells us the world’s condition and the elements of man’s life to which man is connected. Authors by the help of words and characters make their message so tempting that the reader feels as he himself is in the text. Hence, literature connects the reader with the past.

Second the question arises as what the implements and services are there which are done and applied by literature’s implication? The answer is that the literature brings into focus the world of entertainment and in the world of fiction so to deliver information and entertainment at the same time sometime, one, through the literary texts.

Third question is that how literature reflects the society? The argument in the regard comes that a literary text reflects a society by numerous aspects and angles by showings its circumstances and the motives and thoughts of the people. The literature presents a clear and powerful analysis of the society by its tools such as the characters, actions, events. Hence, these things present the realities of the society.

Last question is that what are the types of literature? Usually two types of literature are there. One is the pure literature and the other is applied. The difference between the two is that pure literature is totally aesthetic and is concerned with the reading of any work of art capable to read.

This type of literary text can be analyzed in numerous ways while the latter is contacted with the acquisition of language on the society. This type of literature is totally practical and it is concerned with the application of literature.
